ABOUT LIFE CHURCH
OUR story
Life Church was established in 1954, and we believe that the best is yet to come.
our history
Life Church is built on a rich legacy of faith.
On June 8, 1954, thirty-six Houstonians met in the home of N.A. Morris to pray and worship Jesus together. Their home church quickly grew beyond their home’s capacity, so they built a church building on the corner of Market and Rouse Streets in Houston. On November 12, 1957, James and Imogene Kilgore were selected to lead Life Church, where they served faithfully for 46 years. Life Church outgrew their building and moved to 2950 Broadway in 1967. Daniel and Jan Calk were selected as Associate Pastors in 1988, and they served faithfully until Pastor Daniel’s untimely death due to bone cancer in 1991.
In 1998, Life Church moved to a location on Windmill Lakes Blvd, which has been home to a school, a day care, and a church that has shown God’s love to the surrounding community ever since.
In 2000, Pastor Kilgore retired, and Pastors Jim and Nancy Kilgore were selected as Lead Pastors, a role in which they are still faithfully serving. Their passion to reach people with the life-giving message of Jesus Christ led them to open Ima’s Home in the Philippines in 2013, which cares for over 100 orphaned or abandoned precious children.
In March of 2021, Life Church opened a second Campus in Friendswood, TX, and in August of 2022 a third campus was opened in League City, TX. Life Church is so excited to continue reaching for people with the life-giving message of Jesus Christ in these new communities. The best is yet to come!
